about

“Bolsheviks Forever”
By Jeff S. Dodge, January 2013

In December of 1992, Clint Sargent and I formed a rock band called ‘The Bolsheviks’. The initial arrangement would include Clint on guitar & vocals, Joe Fitzgibbon on drums and myself on guitars, vocals, keys and bass.

I guess the significance of this arrangement was that we continued to write songs as The Bolsheviks over the next 20 years. In trying to describe it to people, we coined the term Post-Soviet-Psychedelic-Gospel Rock.

Our songwriting styles were often influenced by the local music scene happening throughout early 90’s Portland. With such legendary clubs as the Laluna, Satyricon, EJ's and the X-Ray Cafe hosting some of the best (and worst) local or national talent, The Bolsheviks witnessed a variety of acts that helped develop our large catalog of songs, stagecraft and abstract recordings (things you should probably not call songs).

We tended to call these somewhat therapeutic recording & songwriting phases, ‘Album releases’ (an underground distribution of about 8 - 10 tape cassettes) and we would use these as an excuse to book shows.

Please join my newest Peasant Revolution band in this retrospective of my old band, our old music, our youth, and our Rock-N-Roll...

We have all been victims of a musical nature. Join us in our therapy!
