about

This song was originally released on our

“Living With The Proliteriat” - 1996.
Extremely Limited Release: Approx. 3 Cassettes.

In the Fall of 1995, I was living in a 3 bedroom duplex with two of my old high school friends that were maintaining blue collar jobs while I ran around with Bill Clinton’s AmeriCorps program and as a part-time projectionist. Clint & Steven Cebula finished their run out as the Marshal Plan and had moved back to Portland that summer. As Clint & I began writing a new television series together for Portland Cable Access, the status of my housing situation became a constant source of derision and ridicule. By that Winter, the jokes and stories had transformed into recording sessions for the album, “Living With The Proliteriat”! Steven Cebula contributed his first work as a Bolsheviks member on bass. Marshal Plan drummer Luke Strahota replaced Joe Fitzgibbon.

Clint pretty much wrote this song entirely. I might have supplied a line or couple of words on the verses, but it was pretty much all Clint regarding chords, melody & word choice (Bobby Caesar has a way of improvising his own lines, though...) Steven Cebula, a recent Math Major graduate at the time, used some of his conceptual musical theory meets math skills to invent what I think is a weird yet hauntingly effective bass line.

Much of this rendition includes the original cast with the addition of Bobby Caesar - who took over lead vocals. We also brought in Echo Narcissus to provide a 5th Dimension style duet with Bobby. Phil Jefferson rounded things out with some mystical flute. Ry Malloy also contributed an opening acoustic guitar lick.

Clint Sargent mastered this newest version.
