about

“Country” - 1997
Limited Release: Approximately 7 Cassettes.

By 1997, The Bolsheviks were actively playing out every couple months at a bar or party. Unfortunately the ‘Living with the Proliteriat’ album caused so much stress with my housemates that Clint & I were forced to relocate to Aloha, Oregon due to economic restrictions. This move would prove to be a major test to our artistic commitments as we were very isolated living in my family’s old haunted farm-house.

At first, the energy was very optimistic and positive. Steven Cebula & Luke Strahota drove out within the first couple months and we spent a couple weekends (along with a cameo by David Farrell) tracking the first sessions that would lead to the album, “Country”.

'Texas Miracle' was written shortly after as our isolation from Portland increased. My despondent dating situation had also led to a failed relationship. It made for great songwriting material, though! Visiting Austin, Texas had become an obsession of mine for a couple years at that time. There was an opportunity presented to visit and possibly relocate, but we broke up before I could go and all I ended up with was this waltz...

I invited Brian Shaylor to play fiddle on this tune because of his secretive ability to play Western Swing. He used his father Robin's old fiddle to add more authenticity. Jason Rappaport debuts his smooth bass lines on the album with this song and the great Bobby Caesar accompanies me on vocals.
